Like the rest of China the demand for English teachers in Beijing has grown rapidly over the last 15 years. There is now a broad range of opportunities if you are looking for TEFL jobs in Beijing.

The city, capital of China, is the cultural, political and educational hub of the country. There is also a developed financial sector and modern high-rise CBD. Beijing has many places of interest, and the city has retained much of it’s historical treasures unlike the rest of China’s major cities. The Forbidden City (pictured), an enormous place compound used during the Ming dynasty is Beijing’s star attraction. The Temple of Heaven, a UNESCO world heritage site and Beihai park are other fascinating places to visit.

For English teachers the are lots of opportunities in both public and private sectors. Private language schools offer most of the better paying work and a standard offer for TEFL teachers is 10,000RMB ($1,500) a month or 6,000RMB a month with accommodation provided. Some of the university positions can pay as little as 3,000RMB a month which is barely enough to get by on especially as Beijing is one of the most expensive places to live in China.  With a TEFL certificate you will get better pay and a wider range of options to choose from.
