London is the heart of the UK TEFL industry . There are over 200 language schools in the UK capital, thousands of TEFL jobs in London, and tens of thousands of English language students at any one time in the city. Most of the schools are located in the more fashionable and upmarket areas of central London such as Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Kensington.

The schools operate year round but recieve a large influx of students in the summer. They often rent out additional space in summer from colleges and universities to accommodate the extra classrooms needed. In turn their teaching staff will double. The pay for salaried teachers is in the range of £18,000-£25,000 per year. Temporary staff are paid by the hour. The hourly rates are anywhere between £10-£20 per hour, the better schools usually pay at least £15 per hour.
