Teaching English is one of the biggest and most important industries in the world. TEFL teachers help shape communities, help us to have an increasingly globalized world and help build the leaders of the future throughout the globe. Yet despite this, we know relatively little about who these people are!

There have been lots of studies on teaching practices, how best to teach primary, how to teach grammar, how to manage behaviour etc etc. But there have to date been no studies on the people that do the teaching! This is remarkable right?

In order to make sure that the TEFL industry is the best that it can be, surely we need to understand the people that are at the heart of it? My research aims to do exactly this. The study examines the experiences of TEFL teachers, investigates why they chose to teach and gives you the opportunity to share any other information that you think is relevant to the role of a TEFL teacher. This information will then be used to inform the companies and agents that organize your TEFL placements, the universities or educational institutions that facilitate your qualifications, the schools that you will be working in overseas and many more.
