TEFL Certified Teacher

I am a creative, charismatic TEFL qualified teacher who has recently graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a BA in Anthropology. My previous experience volunteering as a mentor at Assumption Grammar School has given me a valuable insight into the role and inspired my ambition to become a teacher. By instilling a love of learning and cooperative teamwork in my students, I seek to provide them the tools to achieve academic excellence.

Work related skills:

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills

I have strong interpersonal skills as I have mentored children of different ages, abilities, religions, and cultures; as well as liaising with teachers about the student’s individual needs. In this role, I was tasked with finding the specific areas in which the students were
underperforming and adapting material to their needs. I have also exhibited excellent public speaking skills throughout the course of my studies, presenting both individually and in groups, as well as engaging in debate and discussion with my peers.

  • Organisation

Throughout my TEFL course I have proved proficient in creative lesson planning in both the PPP and Skills lesson structure. I have demonstrated these skills within a classroom context and practiced differentiated teaching strategies. I have prepared exciting and engaging lessons, searching the web to find relevant resources that will enthuse students, keeping them engaged and motivated.

  • Team Work

In group projects I am always an enthusiastic team member and fully participate by contributing ideas, but also listening to other’s opinions to develop them. Throughout my time at university I have developed collaborative skills, especially through the planning of our event ‘Image Posi+iVE: A Festival for Radical Inclusion’.
This experience taught me the importance of group cohesion while also encouraging initiative.

  • Problem Solving

My role as a mentor allowed me to identify where students were struggling, and outline a number of solutions.
In the course my studies, I have gained valuable knowledge regarding ethnographic research and creative problem solving.
Methods of observation of human behaviour and experience make it possible for me to make decisions based on cultural awareness and an overall goal of academic achievement and student motivation.
